stories related to fine art shipping and installation:

Can being an art handler be so enjoyable and inspiring most of the time? "Not every day is proverbially sunny," says Paul Kirk, The Conservation Center's Director of Shipping and Installation. "When there are two of us, moving a 600 pound sculpture from a gallery or museum, or even in someone's home, and it suddenly starts to downpour or snow, or whatever might happen, then no, I'm not taking the time to become inspired. I'm only thinking about how we can now, very quickly, move this piece without exposing it to potential damage.”

Organization and efficient inventory management are of the utmost importance here at The Conservation Center. It is critical for our staff to properly record each piece as it enters and exits our facility, especially with the recent influx of delicate items from our disaster response efforts.
